The secondary curriculum review
When QCA published guidance on personal development in the curriculum in 2004, the emphasis was on coherent programmes for PSHE, citizenship and careers education. The vision has now widened to view personal development as integral to the whole curriculum.
Many schools have taken steps to map personal development across the whole curriculum and for some, it is an essential part of their planning process. QCA has been working with schools that promote personal development in a coherent way across core, foundation and other subjects, including vocational ones.
The examples in this section show how work in specific subjects could relate to the five areas of the personal development framework and how schools could embed personal development across the curriculum.
