Embedding ICT in DT |
Lesson Context
Barbara Lawler from Swanshurst School in Birmingham has been developing ways for Year 11 pupils to model their design ideas for KS4 coursework and also encourage them to include more ICT at the same time.
Pupils first sketched out their design ideas on paper and scanned them. They then used a neat program called Fittingly Sew to develop their patterns on screen. This program has the facility to print out the resulting patterns as a small-scale version and these were used to model their original design ideas. Year 11 Textiles Technology pupils infiltrated the Resistant Materials workshops over the half term holiday and manufactured their dummies. They were able to use the same small-scale pattern blocks and their original scanned images to produce a pattern lay.
This way of working will be demonstrated at the D&T Show 2000 in November at the NEC in Birmingham.
