EMIR is no newcomer to the education sector, having been manufacturing workbenches for schools and colleges since 1946. Over the years the original EMIR bench design has been refined and a range of specialist and multi-functional hardwood benches developed, making the company the UK's leading bench manufacturer, as well as an exporter to some 40 countries world-wide. As educational emphasis switched to design and technology during the 1980s, EMIR took the significant step of introducing the square bench concept to allow for maximum use of floorspace. This innovation has continued with the design of the new E3000, Worktable and Ergo Stool, suitable for most art and craft applications including drawing and writing. The design is the result of the Design Council and DfES funded "Furniture for the Future" project. It is both truly innovative and multifunctional, whilst complementing those environments where both practical and written work is undertaken by students. EMIR are happy to provide specialist advice on our range of benches and cupboards to Advisors or D&T teachers by phone or on site.

Web: www.unimatic.com
Unimatic offers a range of compact CNC machines aimed specifically at the CAD/CAM needs of Technology Departments. The eduCAM range of machines is identical to machines supplied to industry, so its relevance to the world of work is exceptional, and will allow students to offer precisely relevant skills to prospective employers. The range offers up to four axes of movement: three linear, up-down, left-right and back-forward; plus an optional rotary axis (technically called x, y, z and r), which allows virtually any 3D shape to be cut from a wide range of materials. Various spindle motors are available for cutting metals such as aluminium and brass, hard- and softwood, MDF, plastic, resin, wax, and foam. It is supplemented by Unimatic's easy-to-use and popular Galaad CAD/CAM software, as well as market-leading CAM software from Delcam plc, such as ArtCAM and PowerMILL. eduCAM is suitable for use by pupils from 10 or 12, who would typically scan in a map, logo or 'clip art' and produce signs, badges or other essentially 2D items. As they progress through the school, they advance to 3D models and then engineering components to precise tolerances. At the heart of the CAD/CAM Initiative is a network of many accredited trainers, plus regional 'hub centres', with successful examples in: Lincolnshire, Dublin, Avon, London, Liverpool, Reading, Telford, Swansea and Newcasle-upon-Tyne.
