Lesson Context
A child oriented product outcome which can be used to introduce basic functions of 2D drawing software.
Resources Needed
A computer, printer and suitable 2-D Drawing software (e.g. !Draw, Autosketch, TechSoft Designer, DesignWorks or ClarisWorks)
Card, felt tip pens, adhesive spray, craft knife, safety rule and cutting mat.
Teacher Preparation
Mount a display of commercial games and puzzles to stimulate ideas.
Have available a selection of cereal packets
Project Brief
A manufacturer wishes to feature small games and puzzles to promote a range of breakfast
cereals. The intention is to print a cut-out game or puzzle on the back of cereal packets. The target is to produce a range of five suitable games or puzzles to encourage customers to collect the set.
Design and Manufacture
Investigate traditional games and puzzles from different countries then sketch your own ideas.
Use 2-D Drawing software on a computer to develop your chosen designs and then print them out full size on to paper.
To trial the game or puzzle, the print-out can then be pasted on to card to make up your design and then covered with clear plastic to protect it during 'field testing'.
Your final design can be printed and pasted onto a card net or a half size version could be plotted directly on to A3 card.
More economically, you could simply turn an existing cereal box inside out to make a full size final version.
Expected Outcomes
A range of travel game designs
MS Word file of associated pupil hand-out
