Resources Needed
A computer, printer, 2D Drawing software (e.g. !Draw, Autosketch, TechSoft Designer, DesignWorks or ClarisWorks) and suitable paint type software (e.g. !Paint, PaintSpa, CorelDraw, ArtWorks);
Card, felt tip pens, adhesive spray, craft knife, safety rule and cutting mat.
Optional: a scanner or video digitiser to capture the original image.
Project Brief
A shop hires theatre costumes and fancy dress outfits and wishes to add a range of low cost accessories. Design and make masks, disguises or 'face ornaments' which could be used at parties, masquerades, festivals or theatrical events.
Design and Manufacture
Consider the occasions on which such masks might be worn. Make a list of characters which a mask might be based upon (e.g. Harlequin, cartoon character, yourself!) If possible, visit a local costume hire shop.
Think of different types of masks (e.g. full face, Groucho Marx type or eyes and forehead only).
Use 'paint' type software to produce your design then print out onto A4 paper or card
Expected Outcomes
Masks and spectacles printed on to card
MS Word file of pupil hand-out
