Lesson Context
A main coursework project for SEG 3400. Approximately 40hours of designing and making. The student was encouraged to combine a traditional design using modern materials. The design was enhanced by using CAD/CAM embroidery to produce a label for the textile item, thus bringing the traditional design up to the new millenium. The project spanned the millenium as it was started in 1999 and completed in 2000.

Resources Needed
Colourfun glitter paints, satin fabrics, Husqvarna customising software, Husqvarna Rose machine with embroidery unit.

Project Brief
Cultural influences on soft furnishings for the home. 60% courework project.

Design and Manufacture
The student created the hand painted design by using the 'wrong' end of a fine wooden paint brush. The glitter paint was applied meticulously resulting in a very individual result. The reverse of the cushion was decorated with a CAD/CAM label which was then appliqued onto the satin fabric.
